The team acts for major developers, contractors, and government clients across sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, energy transition, and mining.

Construction Disputes Team

In Sydney, the construction disputes team is part of the broader Disputes & Investigations group. Lawyers benefit from strong cross-office collaboration, allowing exposure to large-scale disputes and proceedings handled nationally and globally.

The team advises on all stages of construction-related disputes, including security of payment matters, arbitration, expert determination, litigation, and mediation. The practice is known for its commercial, strategic approach and is regularly involved in high-value proceedings in the Supreme and Federal Courts.

Position Description

This role offers an excellent opportunity to take a lead role in managing construction disputes while also learning from multiple partners and senior lawyers.

You will work on:
  • Complex litigation in the Supreme and Federal Courts

  • Domestic and international arbitration proceedings

  • Adjudication under security of payment legislation

  • Project delivery phase disputes on major infrastructure and energy projects

  • Contractual dispute boards, mediations and other alternative dispute resolution processes

You will be part of a collaborative team, with opportunities to mentor junior lawyers and contribute to practice growth.

Key Requirements

You will be an Associate or Senior Associate with 2+ years’ post-admission experience in construction disputes or broader commercial litigation. You will bring:
  • Experience in construction-related litigation or interest in transitioning into the area

  • Strong advocacy, drafting and analytical skills

  • Experience working with clients through complex litigation or arbitration processes

  • A commercial and strategic mindset

  • A collaborative approach and strong communication skills

  • Interest in mentoring others and contributing to a high-performing team
