Lawyer (Associate or Senior Associate) - Real Estate Finance

Sitting within the firm’s Global Loans practice, the team advises on the full spectrum of sophisticated real estate finance transactions — from high-value bilateral and syndicated investment facilities to complex development, construction, and acquisition financings, often involving multi-jurisdictional or bespoke structuring.
The practice acts for all four major Australian banks, leading international investment banks, domestic and offshore credit funds, and top-tier sponsors, and is regularly entrusted with the most significant and high-profile matters in the market.
Real Estate Finance Team
Based in Sydney, the team works closely with colleagues nationally and internationally to deliver innovative solutions for complex financing deals. The environment is commercial, strategic, and collaborative, with strong mentoring, career development, and client engagement at its core.
Position Description
In this role, you will: - Advise on real estate finance transactions, including acquisition, development, and investment loans, with input on transaction structuring.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate finance documents — including facility agreements, common terms deeds, security trust deeds, intercreditor agreements, security agreements, and side deeds — ensuring alignment with market practice and client objectives.
- Take day-to-day responsibility for progressing transactions, coordinating with clients, financiers, and advisers, managing issues as they arise, and overseeing execution and closing.
- Delegate work to junior team members, supervise output, and provide leadership, training, and mentoring.
- Participate in business development, networking, and client workshops, while contributing to the team’s know-how and market insight.
Key Requirements
You will be an Associate / Senior Associate with 3+ years’ experience in loan markets, ideally gained at a top-tier or respected mid-tier firm or in-house. You will bring: - Real estate finance experience, including acquisition and development finance.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills for facility, security, and intercreditor documentation, ideally with familiarity with APLMA precedents.
- Ability to manage complex transactions to tight deadlines with appropriate partner support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical ability, and commercial judgment.
- A proactive, client-focused approach with enthusiasm for mentoring and business development.
