Lawyer or Associate, Environment & Planning

We represent a leading Australian commercial law firm.

They are currently looking for a Lawyer or Associate level lawyer to join the Environment & Planning team in their Sydney office.

Environment & Planning

The Environment & Planning team at this major commercial law firm comprises a discipline of top tier lawyers across all their offices.

With a strong national practice, the team advises on all aspects of environment and planning law from major infrastructure projects, through to ecologically sustainable development, contamination and remediation, water, energy & resources and planning issues.

The team regularly acts for a range of major corporations and government clients and is widely-regarded as a leading practice.

Position Description

You will work most closely with a partner who is consistently regarded as a leader in their field and genuinely great to work for - yet also have exposure to the wider team nationally.

The type of work you will be involved in will include:
  • Obtaining project approvals and overseeing the preparation of project applications and environmental assessments.
  • Matters before the NSW Land and Environment Court in relation to planning appeals, tree disputes, valuation and compensation, judicial review and environmental offences.
  • Environmental regulation including incident response, water use management, contaminated land remediation and conservation, and mining regulatory issues.
It is a collaborative and friendly team.  

Given the structure of the team, this is a unique opportunity to assume a high level of responsibility and autonomy.

Requirements

The successful applicants will have 2 to 5 years' post admission legal experience. 

You will have experience in environment and planning law.

In addition, you will have:
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal as well as people skills
  • strong attention to detail with well-developed analytical skills.
