Lawyer, Construction Disputes

We have been briefed by a leading independent Australian corporate law firm to identify an exceptional disputes lawyer (2 to 4yrs) with either experience in, or keen interest to practise in, construction law.

The construction practice at this major law firm has been widely-regarded as the pre-eminent group in the country for a number of years and there are no signs of this view changing anytime soon.

Construction

The Sydney construction team undertakes some of the most complex, significant and high-profile infrastructure, construction, engineering and mining projects and matters in the Asia-Pacific region.

The team covers the full range of construction matters including:
  • advice on all aspects of their projects (including pre-contract, project delivery methods, project finance, procurement, drafting standard and bespoke construction contracts)
  • contract administration and interpretation
  • all forms of construction claims
  • litigation
  • alternative dispute resolution (including mediation, expert determination, and arbitration (including international arbitration)).
Position Description

This major law firm is looking to hire an outstanding 2 to 4 year disputes' lawyer to work primarily with one of their high-profile partners.  Your supervising partner is one of Australia's pre-eminent construction lawyers.  He is listed as a leading construction lawyer in all of the recognised legal publications.

You will act for a range of clients including owners, developers, project sponsors, financiers, project managers, consultants, and government agencies at local, state and federal level on a mix of dispute resolution including litigation, arbitration (also including international arbitration) mediation and expert determination.

On offer is the opportunity to work very closely with your supervising partner, who is known for his calm and measured approach, and his ability to mentor and supervise his lawyers to ensure that they reach their full potential.

Given the structure of the team you will also work with the other partners and senior resources from time to time.

Requirements

You will be an intermediate level lawyer with between 2 to 4 years' construction disputes experience. If you have general commercial disputes experience with a keen interest in specialising in construction, you are also encouraged to apply.

In addition, you will have the following:
  • developing professional profile and an ability to develop an internal network beyond the practice group.
  • An ability to maintain and foster client relationships.
  • An ability to consistently present a positive image of self, the team and the firm.
