An exciting opportunity is available for a Lawyer or Senior Associate to join a leading Employment Relations and Workplace Safety practice in Brisbane.
This is an excellent opportunity to work across sophisticated employment, industrial relations and work health and safety matters for an impressive portfolio of private sector and government clients. You will join a collaborative and highly regarded team advising on complex workplace issues, significant disputes and major safety matters.

The Team 

The Employment Relations and Workplace Safety team is a highly regarded national practice advising major private sector organisations and government clients across employment, industrial relations and work health and safety.
The team works across a broad range of contentious and advisory matters, including employment litigation, enterprise bargaining, workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, organisational change, industrial disputes and major workplace safety incidents.
The practice combines strong technical expertise with a practical and commercially focused approach, helping clients navigate complex workplace issues and achieve effective outcomes.
You will work closely with experienced partners and senior lawyers across the broader practice, gaining direct exposure to sophisticated matters and opportunities to develop strong relationships with clients.

The Role

We are seeking a Lawyer or Senior Associate with at least 3 years' post-admission experience to join the Employment Relations and Workplace Safety practice in Brisbane.
The role offers a particularly strong opportunity to develop expertise in work health and safety while continuing to work across employment relations and anti-discrimination matters.
You will advise on complex WHS matters, including significant workplace incidents, regulatory investigations, prosecutions and other safety-related proceedings. You will also gain exposure to employment matters involving senior executives and major Australian organisations.
Your work will be varied and hands-on. You may appear in the Fair Work Commission, advise on employee suspensions and ill-health management, address psychosocial risks arising from organisational change, advise on workplace conduct complaints and underpayment disputes, or negotiate with industrial organisations.
You will also work on significant workplace safety matters, including incident responses and regulator investigations, providing excellent opportunities to deepen your WHS expertise.

Responsibilities include:
  • Advising on employment, industrial relations and work health and safety matters.
  • Assisting clients with significant workplace incidents and regulatory investigations.
  • Advising on WHS compliance, enforcement and prosecution matters.
  • Appearing in and assisting with proceedings before the Fair Work Commission and other relevant courts and tribunals.
  • Advising on workplace investigations, disciplinary processes and conduct complaints.
  • Advising on employee suspension, performance and ill-health management matters.
  • Advising on psychosocial risks and workplace safety obligations.
  • Assisting with organisational change and redundancy processes.
  • Advising on underpayment disputes and other employment-related claims.
  • Assisting with enterprise bargaining and negotiations involving industrial organisations.
  • Advising on anti-discrimination and senior executive employment matters.
  • Building trusted client relationships and delivering practical and commercially focused advice.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years' post-admission experience.
  • Relevant experience across employment, industrial relations, work health and safety or related workplace law matters.
  • A strong interest in developing expertise across employment relations and WHS.
  • Strong technical, drafting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Strong time and matter management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to provide practical solutions to complex workplace issues.
  • Confidence building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with multiple partners and lawyers across the practice.
  • For more senior candidates, an interest in mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the continued development of the practice.
